Richard has worked within the decommissioning sector for over 35 years and has been involved in fossil fuel fired power station demolition as both contractor and specialist adviser. In 1992 he formed RVA Group, currently active in the EU, Asia, and North America, managing large-scale, high-hazard and complex decommissioning projects.
Celebrating its 27th Anniversary this year, the company portfolio is extensive, and includes noteworthy experience in the preparation of a range of complex decommissioning and demolition projects as well as detailed plant sequential dismantling and relocation schemes. Richard’s goal has always been to support
global organisations in achieving EHS excellence, and extracting best value from asset retirement programmes. Richard’s particular area of interest is in working collaboratively with asset owners and key stakeholders across Europe to minimise the impact on the demolition supply chain, create efficient allocation of resources, and optimise cost-efficiency as power stations develop their decommissioning strategies. As Past President of both the Institute of Demolition Engineers and the Institute of Explosives Engineers, Richard was also part of a peer-group of contributors who produced the current version of BS5607: Code of Practice for Safe Use of Explosives in the Construction Industry.
